Why NITROX?

Three reasons: bottom time, bottom time and bottom time.  The use of Enriched Air NITROX (EANx) can greatly extend the No-Decompression Limits for sport diving to DOUBLE OR MORE.

What is NITROX?

Enriched Air NITROX (EANx) is a breathing mixture of highly filtered air enriched with oxygen.  EAN32 (32% O2) and EAN36 (36% O2) are two standard mixes, readily available at dive shops and resorts everywhere.

What do I have to do to dive with NITROX?

NITROX SCUBA diving is safe, affordable and requires a modest amount of training. In order to earn a NITROX Specialty Certification, you will participate in a classroom session, OR LEARN ONLINE WITH ELEARNING, and test your knowledge on a written exam. Finally, you will apply your skills during two open water qualification dives. Upon completion, you will receive a certification card that identifies you as a trained NITROX diver, allowing you to dive NITROX anywhere in the world!

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Isn't NITROX just for deep diving?
NO!  In fact, NITROX is most beneficial at middle depths.

2. Are there any course prerequisites?
Yes.  In order to take the NITROX specialty certification course you must be certified at the Open Water level, with at least four logged dives in the past year, or take "Dive Refreshed".

3. How long does the NITROX course last?
The NITROX Specialty Certification course includes one evening of training in the classroom, OR ONLINE WITH ELEARNING, plus two open water qualification dives.

4. What is the cost of the NITROX course?
The cost of the NITROX Specialty Certification course is just $249.00, which includes the textbook and materials, classroom session or eLearning, and certification card upon successful completion.  In addition, two open water qualification dives (one repetitive) with NITROX are recommended, and can be done in several different ways.  The cost of these dives, and NITROX fills, varies and is not included in the course tuition.

5. Do I need special equipment to dive with NITROX?
No, the regulator and BCD you already have can be used with NITROX up to 40% O2, although it is recommended that you have special O-rings put in your regulator at its next annual service.  Tanks and valves, however, must be specially set up and labeled for NITROX. It is strongly recommended that you own a NITROX capable dive computer.
